About Artsphere

Our Goal – To bring the Creative Arts Together

Our Vision - To build a source of knowledge that:

  • nurtures demand for, and participation in, creative experiences

  • encourages innovation and diversity

  • enables cultural, intellectual and personal enrichment.

A Brief Background

With 1.8 million employees, the creative industries are now growing at around twice the rate of the rest of the economy, according to the Work Foundation Report into the economic performance of the UK’s creative industries (June 2007). The report also highlights the importance of the creative industries to the cultural and social health of the UK.

These findings form a large part of over twenty years experience held by Artsphere founders, Michael and Jax Lovelock. They understand the need to create, to share, to reinvent, to express, to move beyond boundaries. They see the wonder of personal enrichment from participation in creative ventures, and creative work has (almost) always placed food on their table and a roof over their heads.

Their need to share, enhance and encourage creative participation is why Artsphere was born – with the added aim of helping those 1.8 million (plus) people to generate the interest they need to survive and continue creating.

Using the internet to provide Artsphere’s services allows free and widespread access on a local and national scale. It also initiates and encourages the first steps towards face to face contact and lasting relationships.

The Future …

Since Artsphere’s launch in Spring 2006, we have actively provided support to those looking for creative enrichment and those offering it.

Our February 2008 re-launch encourages proactive use of Artsphere via the inclusion of the Creative Arts, Business and Education Directories, the Creative Arts News and Events features, and the Creative Arts Jobs service.

We are committed to building a home for the UK creative arts industry that supports, promotes and, more importantly, makes the creative arts more diverse and accessible than ever before.

And we are passionate about building a relationship with you that is supportive, fun and inspirational as we continue to explore all that creativity has to offer.

Artsphere and the Creative Economy

Our clear vision aims to address some of the findings in the Work Foundation creative economy report:

Artsphere will build a source of knowledge that nurtures demand for, and participation in, creative experiences.

The Arts Council of England also finds that lack of interest is the main obstacle to greater attendance. Indeed, it estimates that around 8 million adults in England who attend the arts infrequently would be encouraged to do so more by better information on what is available, cheaper admission prices and notably more interesting content closer to home.

Chapter Five

Artsphere will build a source of knowledge that encourages innovation and diversity.

…companies will acknowledge that digital communities and peer production are important drivers of the innovation process and an embrace of new ways of managing reciprocal relationships. This will grant new freedom of access and provide customised tools and open application interfaces for creating and managing content, driving new forms of consumption.

Chapter Two

The creative industries depend on diversity for their success. There is a complex and critical relationship between creativity and diversity, whose centrality to the creative process cannot be underestimated.

Chapter Five

Artsphere will build a source of knowledge that enables intellectual and personal enrichment.

There is some evidence that human beings have an innate tendency to express their emotional and psychological feelings at the highest aesthetic or technical level in whatever cultural dimension – music, theatre, art, or interactive websites.

The scale of the current demand for creativity, alongside a desire to participate in producing and creating it, is on an extraordinary and under-reported scale.
