5 of the Best UK makers – Yorkshire Show

To celebrate the Lund’s fifth anniversary gallery owner Debbie Loane has selected five makers whose work demonstrates the wonderful diversity of art and design being produced by young artists and makers in the UK today.

James Naughton’s distinctive landscape paintings seem to catch an exhilarating moment in time in a way which is unique to him. James has enjoyed great success as a painter since he graduated and continues to exhibit in galleries across the UK.

Award winning painter Emerson Mayes will be showing his celebrated landscapes and a new suite of wildlife drypoints and etchings, depicting native birds and animals, which proved an instant hit with the public when recently launched at his Open Studio event.

Also included in the show are pots by makers who have been represented by the Lund since it first opened its doors. Sam Hall, a native of West Yorkshire who now resides in St. Ives, will be showing a specially made collection of small pots whose characteristic scratched and marked surfaces make each piece a voyage of visual discovery.

Husband and wife team Rupert Johnston and Alice Hartford have been working together for a number of years as RAMP (Roop and Al make Pots), based in the idyllic village of Appledore in Devon. Their combined skills in throwing wonderful shapes in earthenware and porcelain and the freehand slip decoration which Alice executes with such vigour and intuition have earned their work great admiration and it is widely collected.

The Autumn Show runs at The Lund Gallery, Alne Road, Easingwold, North Yorkshire YO61 3PA from 12th of September until 6th of November, opening times are Thursday to Saturday, 11am-5pm,
