BRIDGE THE GAP – Investing in our future creatives

Calling all arts and cultural organisations – are you already working with young volunteers or looking to initiate placements / work experience roles / internships?

ENYAN (English National Youth Arts Network) is delivering this event in partnership with Southampton’s Nuffield Theatre, to profile fantastic examples of how organisations have really succeeded in supporting young people into the creative sector and to encourage more organisations to develop opportunities.

The Regional Advisory Panel of ENYAN has identified that there is often a perceived gap in provision for young people who leave education but are interested in a career in arts and culture. What is clear is that there is wealth of knowledge in this region and many organisations are offering excellent schemes to ‘bridge that gap’. Some are extremely well resourced, structured and integral to the organisation’s workforce development, while others are under-resourced, developed as an ‘add on’ to existing projects – there is a complete mixture, but at present very little is communicated between organisations.

This event will be a fantastic networking and learning opportunity for South East organisations. It will provide a platform for young placement holders to tell you exactly what attracts them to a scheme. It will provide a forum for ensuring good practice, build up a regional picture of opportunities and will provide you with the opportunity to discuss your ideas, take away practical tools and develop your knowledge of how such schemes can benefit young people and your organisation!

You will hear case study presentations from organisations and young placement holders; there will be breakout sessions in the afternoon focusing on the quality of the placement, placement planning tools, professional development opportunities, the qualities of a good mentor, bursaries, funding and resourcing programmes.

A Market Place will also be available to delegates during the morning break and lunch period. We are marketing this area to you and separately to FE and HE students across the region, to encourage them to consider opportunities that are available to them. If you would like to hold a stand on the day of the event, please indicate this when you book online – there is no charge for stall holders.

Once you have booked your place online, ENYAN will invoice you and on receipt of the £15 payment, your delegate place will be confirmed.

Booking is required for all delegates and a minimum of 2 weeks notice for any cancellation is expected. Spaces will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

In addition to this online booking, we are really keen to gather information from any arts and cultural organisations already offering placements / internships / work experience / volunteer opportunities.
