CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
SUBMISSIONS FOR AN ACADEMY HANG AT SOMERSET HOUSE
AS PART OF EAST WING IX AT THE COURTAULD INSTITUTE OF ART – DEADLINE 22/11/09
The East Wing collection is a biannual contemporary art show organized independently by students at the Courtauld Institute of Art. For the ninth show opening in January, we are looking for enthusiastic artists to submit work for our contemporary re-imagining of an Academy hang. Should your work be accepted, it will be exhibited at Somerset House for an eighteen month period. This is a brilliant opportunity for aspiring artists.
The first East Wing collection was curated in 1991 by the Courtauld alumnus Joshua Compston, famous for championing the Young British Artists. Since then, collections have included works by artists Grayson Perry, Roger Hiorns, Damien Hirst, Antony Gormley, Mark Wallinger and Miltos Minetas. This year, the committee has decided to broaden the scope of the exhibition and include the work of art students, to sit alongside pieces by the more well-known artists involved.
Our show is entitled EXHIBITIONISM and is concerned with display itself. We have devised a modern-day academy hang to include the work of students in order to create a rich display of interesting works going all the way up the large east staircase of the Institute.
*You will need to submit a good quality photographic image of your work to firstname.lastname@example.org, with your name, email and picture dimensions enclosed.
